Aaron Ziebarth is excited about igniting a generation that seeks God. Aaron has served as executive director of Joy El Camps & Retreats and Joy El Generation since 2003. Prior to Joy El, Aaron served in ministry in North Dakota, Michigan and Minnesota. Aaron’s undergraduate degree is in youth ministry, and he has a master of divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He also gained experience leading church boards and within two family businesses. After serving in presidential roles in two Christian Camp and Conference Association (www.ccca.org) sections, he was elected to serve as chair of the national board. Position: Director of Finance
Mike Smith joined the Joy El staff in the summer of 2009 after 10 years of serving as CFO of Hospice of Washington County. Mike lives in Hagerstown with his wife Cindy. They have two grown children, Lauren and Craig, one son-in-law Patrick, and two grandchildren, Shaun and Claire. Mike’s favorite pasttimes when not crunching the numbers in the business office are going to the gym and working around the yard at home. Position: Director of the 4.12 Leadership Training Program
Nate Marshall heads up our 4.12 LTP as the director, connecting with 4.12 students for ministry opportunities and encouragement. In 2014, he graduated from Grove City College with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and minored in Bible and Religious Studies. At the end of March 2017, Nate married the love of his life, Tori (also on staff), and they now currently reside in Greencastle! When not serving or connecting with 4.12 students, Nate enjoys singing, playing guitar, and studying God’s Word. He is the proud uncle of two nephews and one niece. Position: Executive Assistant
Tanya Pearrell is a life-long native of the north Hagerstown area. Tanya serves as the Executive Assistant for our Executive Director. She loves being involved in the many details that support the work of the ministry behind the scenes and being part of a work that develops students spiritually in their walk with the Lord. When she’s not busy at Joy El, Tanya enjoys reading and spending time with her daughter Ashlyn. Position: Director of Ministry Advancement
Jeanette's passion is to see children and youth come to a saving relationship with Jesus and to help them grow spiritually. At Joy El, she does this in the role of Director of Ministry Advancement. She’s a graduate of Shippensburg University and a lifelong native of Waynesboro where she resides with her husband Kevin and their son Gerry. In her leisure hours, she enjoys reading, writing, browsing the web, caring for the family pets and going on “dates” with her husband. Position: Group Events Coordinator / Bookkeeper
After serving as a Licensed Practical Nurse for 21 years, Miriam now serves in the dual roles of Group Events Coordinator and Bookkeeper here at Joy El. Miriam grew up just 8 miles away from Joy El and participated in Released Time and attended camp as a child. Now living in Greencastle, Miriam shares her home and life with husband David, daughter Katie, and has recently moved her parents, Richard and Karen in with them. She also includes in her family two cats, Cali and Stormy. When she’s not connecting with group leaders and others at the office, she enjoys singing, Bible journaling, writing, and needlework including quilting. Position: Interim Director of Released Time Ministries
Jan began volunteering with a Joy El’s Chi Alpha class while on staff at a local Chambersburg PA church as Chirstian Ed and Youth Minister. Soon she was invited to become a school coordinator for the Andrew Buchanan Elementary Released Time.  In the past 3 years, she has expanded her role to Regional Coordinator, then Associate Director, and very recently to Interim Director of Released Time.   Jan has a Master’s Degree in Biblical Education from Bethany Seminary in Richmond, Indiana and has a deep calling to empower and equip the Body of Christ to disciple and share God’s love and scripture with children and teens.  She lives in Chambersburg with a big, friendly cat named Auggie. Position: Assistant Director of Released Time Ministries
Brenda Brazee began her association with Joy El as a volunteer. She has been involved in the Released Time Bible Program since 1991. She and husband Bob live in Quarryville and have two grown sons, Bobby and Mark. Brenda loves reading, working with children and teens at her church, and telling others about the Released Time Bible Program. Lisa Doyle first participated in the Released Time Bible Program as a school coordinator at York Haven over twenty years ago. She is a York College graduate with a teaching degree in Elementary Education. Lisa resides in Manchester with husband Brian. Between them, Lisa and Brian have 5 children. Lisa enjoys reading and kayaking in her spare time. Lois Ann Glessner is an Elementary Education graduate of Shippensburg University. She grew up in Released Time classes and in our summer camping program as a camper and on staff. Having worked with Joy El Ministries for 27 years, she contributes historical perspective as well as invaluable knowledge and insight from a wealth of hands-on experiences in our programs. Currently, she serves as the Moderator for the Mid-Atlantic District Church of the Brethren. Position: Barnabas Ministry Coordinator
Stephanie Ziebarth brings to Joy El the discipleship training she received through The Navigators and more than 20 years of mentoring and discipleship experience. Because Stephanie’s primary gift and passion is discipleship, coordinating the Barnabas Ministry is a great fit for her. Stephanie also holds a B.A. in journalism and religious studies from the University of Minnesota, where she graduated summa cum laude. She actively disciples her three children, as well as women in the community. She enjoys time with her husband (Joy El’s executive director) and children, including hiking, camping and family bike rides. Position: Camping Ministries Assistant
April first got connected to Joy El through Released Time as a CIA school coordinator, serving in that role in Waynesboro for a year, before becoming our Camping Ministries Assistant. She is a pastor's wife, and she and her husband Randy live in the Waynesboro area. They have three grown children, two of whom still live at home with them, and two dogs. Position: Creative Marketing Specialist
In the mid to late 90′s, Michael John started as a Sales Manager at Arrowhead Springs Christian Conference Center, and Forest Home in Southern California. Later he served as Director of Sales and Marketing at Sandy Cove Ministries in MD. In 2011, he started his own company called Flashpoint Theory Creative Marketing Solutions. Position: Food Services Coordinator
Steven has a long history with camp ministry and cooking. He comes to Joy El from Washington State. He has been a missionary with YWAM, serving in Mexico, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, and Australia. Now he enjoys being the husband of Mikayla and father to two young sons, Jack and Josiah. Position: Released Time Equipping Coordinator
Kathy Dunklebarger is Equipping coordinator for Fulton and Huntingdon counties in Pennsylvania, Hancock in Washington county, Maryland, and Warm Spring in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia. She has just completed her 11th year. Kathy lives in Buck Valley with her husband Scott. They have a son, Tobin, and a daughter in law, Bethany, who live near them on the family farm. She loves crocheting, cross stitching, and other crafts. Position: Released Time Equipping Coordinator
Mim Hake lives in Strinestown with her husband of 40 years, Randy. They have two children: Andrew and Kalah. They also share their home with a 6-lb, long-coat Chihuahua named Morgan. Mim first served as a school coordinator for 9 years before becoming an area coordinator. Position: Released Time Equipping Coordinator
Laurie serves as a Released Time Equipping Coordinator for southern Franklin County. Her first experience with Released Time came several years ago when her son heard about the program at his school and he asked to join. The most exciting part about Released Time for Laurie is the energy and the joy the children have and share as they learn about God through his word and learn their memory verses. Laurie lives in Waynesboro with her husband Chris and their two teenagers, Katelyn and William. Position: Housekeeping Coordinator
Carolyn Hagans serves as our Housekeeping Coordinator. Carolyn comes to us from Menno Haven after working there for 32 years. A St Thomas native originally, Carolyn has lived just outside of Chambersburg for the past 30 years with husband Larry. They have been married 46 years. They have raised two children, a son and daughter, and have three grandchildren. Carolyn has a passion for Rocky Mountain horses. She owns nine of them and has traveled all over the country to show them. She also loves to read.Carolyn’s favorite scripture verse is Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight.”
Position: Assistant Cook and Housekeeper
Tori first came to Joy El as a senior counselor during summer camp in 2015. Besides cooking and cleaning up at Joy El, she's also a student at Antietam Bible College. Though she lives with her family in Greencastle now, including 5 brothers, she's lived on the other side of the world as well. Her family served as missionaries in the YAP in Micronesia and in the South Pacific near Guam. Position: Program Director
Joe, a former native of Long Island, New York, attended Grove City College and received his bachelors degree in both English and History in 2012. He also holds a Masters degree from Wheaton College in Christian Formation of Ministry with an emphasis in Outdoor Adventure Leadership, which he earned in May 2016. Joe's camp ministry background includes two years of serving at Honey Rock camp in Wisconsin and two summer of service at Seneca Hills Bible Camp in western Pennsylvania. Joe is excited to be taking on the role of Program Director here at Joy El. Joe has been married three years to Jordan, a high school math teacher who also has a long camp family history. Victor is a York County native who now lives in Shippensburg. Victor brings much energy to his role as Associate Director of Released Time. He earned a degree in Graphic Design in 2015. He has been a Director of Marketing and Advertising with Super Shoes. He's a board member at his church, and a ministry leader with Celebrate Recovery in Chambersburg.  He and wife Myra have recently celebrated 34 years of marriage. Courtney has a long history with Joy El for one so young. She grew up in Joy El's programs including Released Time, summer camp and the 4.12 Leadership Training Program. She's served on our summer staff for multiple years and is now serving as our 4.12 Female Coordinator while she attends Lancaster Bible College, where she is majoring in Women in Christian Ministries. Courtney calls the Chambersburg area her home and lives with her parents, sister and brother when not at college. Amanda fell in love with the Released Time Bible Program when she first began as a listener with the Buchanan Elementary School RT in Chambersburg. As God has provided her with opportunities to grow spiritually, He has also given her open doors of leadership within the program, first as secretary, then as school co-coordinator. Andrea is a Minnesota transplant into Pennsylvania by way of Seattle, New York City, and Denver. She's excited to be a part of the Released Time time as the Released Time Administrative Assistant. She's enthusiastic about reaching kids for Christ who might not otherwise have the opportunity to hear God's word anywhere else. Position: Camping Intern/Interim Volunteer Coordinator
Kaleb is a senior at Greencastle Area Senior High and a Level 5 student in our 4.12 Leadership Training Program. He is serving as an intern at Joy El during his senior year and helping in our camping ministry. Kaleb recently served as our high ropes coordinator during summer camp and was intricately involved with the hiring of summer staff as well as coordinating the installation of our new Disc Golf course at Joy El. Kaleb is an avid reader and also enjoys playing soccer and hiking. Position: J-Serve Coordinator
With a strong teaching background, Mikayla provides excellent oversight to our J-Serve Program, a gap-year program that provides a hands on ministry experience for students enrolled in the program. She holds a bachelor's degree in Religion and Speech Communications from Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington. In addition she holds a post-bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from George Fox University in Newburg, Oregon, and a Master's degree in Teaching.She has been a middle school teacher for over 15 years and has more than 21 years of experience in working with high school students in youth ministries.
