Two weekends ago, the programming team decided to take our summer leadership team during their training time to go get some pretzels at a local bakery called Mama K’s, located in Greencastle, PA. We were going there to support a fundraiser that was taking place from Saturday morning to afternoon.
After getting our delicious pretzels and enjoying them in the square, we were quickly surprised to see one of our regular summer campers running up to us as we were getting back in our Joy El van to head back to Camp. The camper, Patrick*, was running as fast as he could dragging his scooter alongside him to say hello to every single one of his favorite Joy El staff members. I can only imagine for him it was probably crazy seeing all of us at the same place at the same time and that we were not at Camp. He ran up to us excited to let us know that he was planning on registering and not just registering but registering before our discount deadline so he could have a free T-shirt. After spending the past week doing phone call upon phone call. It brought joy to our hearts to hear that one of our young campers received one of those phone calls and was excited to join us this summer.
For me and the other leadership members, we were encouraged to see the joy that Camp brings for the campers, and cannot wait to see the many opportunities for campers like Patrick to experience this year. This year for summer camp the theme is Paradise To Come, where campers will learn of the eternal joy of being in paradise with their creator. We are excited for campers to get a foretaste of that eternal joy this summer when they are on site!
