By Kim Sanger, Assistant Director of Bible Adventure
When this school year started, and our Bible Adventure and CIA programs started to meet, goals were set for earning awards and free weeks of camp. Josh, a fifth grader, knew this year was his last chance to earn free camp through Bible Adventure.
When he got to the beginning of March, he was only 30 points away from his goal. His mom asked us that same week how camp registration works for students who earn free camp. We had the pleasure of sharing with her how to go about getting her son signed up for summer camp.
A week later, our culture entered into crisis with the advent of the COVID-19 quarantine. Schools were closed, Bible Adventures couldn’t meet, and there wasn’t a clear “next steps” plan for our students to move forward in their learning and in earning awards. It seemed as though the children who had worked so hard to achieve goals would fall just shy of reaching them.
However, little by little, a plan formulated and a new normal started to set in. Ideas and guidance came together into a clear path that showed us how we could make those goals attainable to our Bible Adventure and CIA students. Through the use of online technology along with some training and encouragement, Josh’s team of leaders and listeners decided to meet using Zoom. During the second week of online Bible Adventure, Josh reached his goal of 300 points and earned tha t free week of camp! He was so excited. (His mom was, too!) J
