The closing of the Bible Adventure and CIA ministry year is often bittersweet because goodbyes are hard. When meaningful things end, it is normal to feel a bit sad. In attending the closing programs, the volunteers and students alike, wish it weren’t ending so soon. This kind of response is evidence of how important this time together has become. The students will miss their listeners who demonstrated God’s love and faithfulness through their faithful presence each week. The volunteers who have grown to love and care for the students will miss them.
I am always energized during Bible Adventure and CIA closings when they end with a vision for the next year. It might be a vision of reaching out to invite more volunteers. It could be a vision of promoting this ministry to the community. Sometimes that vision is to begin a new Bible Adventure or CIA for another school! This would ensure that the students who are saying goodbye, could say, “See you next year when we will be able to continue studying God’s Word!”
I have witnessed two teams demonstrate that exact vision. One team of volunteers has a desire to expand the ministry into the last elementary school in their district. Therefore, they decided to stay an extra hour and bring those students over to create a new Bible Adventure for Lingle Elementary School in Palmyra. Another volunteer who serves in Adamstown Bible Adventure had the vision for a program to be made available in Berks County where she serves as the Outreach Director at her church. I am looking forward to helping these two new schools open this fall. That kind of vision excites me!
