In December I was talking with a young man named Cole. You see, every month I have the privilege of reading Cole’s spiritual growth updates. Cole is a level three member of our 4.12 Leadership Training Program. I’m always encouraged by the insights that he gains by spending time in God’s Word.
As I read this month, I noticed a theme in his report. He asked me to pray for balance. He was struggling to spend sufficient time in God’s Word every day, and sometimes he was even missing this time. (As you know, life is BUSY.) It was his love for and commitment to hunting that was causing a little distraction.
So as we talked I encouraged him to look at Matthew 6:33: “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
After discussing this, he determined to make God first, believing that God would ultimately cause everything else that needs to fall into place to fall into place.
The next afternoon I was very excited to read this text and see this photo from Cole:
“Hey Aaron! God answered my prayer this morning! And I’m done hunting for deer for the year. 🙂 It’s kinda interesting that the time I got out of bed and put God first, I saw the deer I needed to tag out when I have not even been seeing deer before.
“And the deer walked down through brush which deer don’t do. They stay to their trails and don’t make it any harder than it needs to be. And it was right in front of me broadside at 20 yards which nearly never happens in rifle. So God was definitely with me this morning!”
I’m not sure how much time you are able to spend in God’s Word each day, but I can assure you that the principal and promise of Matthew 6:33 applies to all of God’s children. Let’s make Him first every day!
