One of the core values of our ministry is that we are Bible-based. The lessons we create for Bible Adventure students and campers alike all come right from the Word of God, and scripture is central in our teaching and equipping. We know that God speaks from and convicts the heart through His Word.
“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged
sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow;
it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
We know when a student is being impacted by what they are learning when they seem to “get it” during a lesson or when the Holy Spirit convicts them of something they hadn’t seen as wrong before.
*Mitchell, a Bible Adventure student, recently handed his school coordinator an envelope. He was returning after a week away from the program because he had been suspended due to disrespect for the leaders and misbehaving. Susie, his coordinator, opened the envelope to find Mitchell had written a letter of apology to her and the other leaders in his own handwriting. He was sorry for his poor behavior. When questioned as to who encouraged him to write it, his response was that he had chosen to write the letter himself. Mitchell recognized his own sin.
God is working in this child’s heart, His Word penetrating to the boy’s spirit, helping Mitchell judge his own thoughts and attitudes from a biblical worldview. How much sweeter it will be when Mitchell not only apologizes and changes his behavior, but recognizes that he is forgiven! It is for this purpose that we lead children to God’s Word.
