Six double swings arranged in a circle around a fire pit were empty except for one camper swinging contentedly. I sat on a nearby swing and began a conversation. The camper was one of the Bible Adventure retreat campers taking a break from the fast paced activities around her including mini golf and gaga ball and playground activities to name a few. Conversation flowed freely. She was enjoying her weekend and would “definitely be attending again.” After 15 minutes of engaging conversation, it was time to move on. I told her to enjoy the rest of her stay. She said, “thank you for taking the time to talk with me.”
This was not the only camper that I had an extended conversation with during activity time. We often don’t take the time to engage students in conversation. We see them with screens in their hands and tend to walk on by. What would life be like if we once again talked with children and teens? The next generation of leaders need guidance and affirmation. We offer the perfect setting for involvement. Join us at Bible Adventure. You can engage students in conversation as a small group leader.
