Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.” Daniel 12:3
The wise men followed a star to Bethlehem that led them to Jesus the King. Bible Adventure, like the star of Bethlehem for the wise men, helps lead students to Jesus. After beginning a relationship with Jesus, students have the light of Christ in them and share it with others. I recently had the opportunity to see this first hand.
I recently was at a Bible Adventure leaders training meeting in Dover, PA. While there I was able to visit one of our elementary programs. Bible Adventure is one of the ministries of Joy El, a Pennsylvania Christian camp, for students in 3rd-6th grade.
I was waiting in the gathering room to greet the children and sing our theme song with them.
The bus had barely stopped when in rushed *Debbie, a vibrant, bright-eyed student at the front of the line. She made a “bee-line” for me and threw her arms around my waist declaring, “They said you are in charge of Bible Adventure! Thank you so much for helping us have it here!”
Her passion took me by surprise, but it shouldn’t have!
At Bible Adventure and CIA we are committed to leading our public school students to Jesus the King. Each week they get to experience life-change as they personally encounter Jesus. Jesus is the Light in our dark world. How exciting it is to be a part of “Igniting a generation that seeks him” Psalm 24:6
Our Bible Adventure theme song this school year is “He is the Light!” which is based on John 1:4-5.
As I stood by Debbie, she sang the song with exuberance, “Jesus is the one who lights our way…follow his lead and light it up…light up the world!” Later I observed her reciting a memory verse with her listener. It was Psalm 119:105 “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” Debbie is working on earning a free week of camp at Joy El!
I wonder if we have lost the joy and wonder of a child.
It’s alive and well in Debbie and the students who get to celebrate the light of Jesus during school hours because of the ministry God has given through Joy El!
“In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds, and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
