One of the parts of my job is recruiting college-age to serve at Joy El as summer staff. This presents a unique opportunity to share what God is doing at Joy El. This past week, I took a trip with some of our summer leadership team to recruit at a Christian college.
This trip was an incredible experience for many reasons but the biggest thing I noticed is how God has worked in the lives of our summer staff members. Of the three members that came with me, I can remember each of their first summers. We were able to reflect on the big and small ways that they have grown since each of their first summers.
We spent two days at the college talking to hundreds of college students. The staff members that came with me got the opportunity to share again and again what it means to them to serve at camp. They got to share about friendships they made, lessons they learned, and most impactfully- how they got the opportunity to know the Lord in a deeper and more personal way.
We left the trip tired but encouraged by the connections that we made and excited for all the ways that God will continue to work through the summer staff this summer at Joy El.
One specific way that we already saw God working from the trip was when we connect with Tim (name change) early on in our visit. He seemed interested, gave us his contact information and left for class. It turns out he was very interested as he applied right away. We took the time to get to know him as he interacted with our team and interviewed him for the senior counselor position. Our team loved him, and we quickly realized that Tim was supposed to be on at Joy El this summer. The leadership team jumped in, eager to bring Tim in as a part of what the Lord is going to do this summer.
I can’t wait to see all that God will do through the lives of campers and staff this summer! Let me know if you also want to be apart of this life change.
