Yesterday a timely word was emailed to me and a couple other staff members. I was amazed at how much encouragement it brought. Let me provide some context.
It is rare that a volunteer or parent of a summer camper or Bible Adventure student sends an email to several Joy El staff members simultaneously for positive reasons. (They usually send those when they are really upset and want many people to hear their frustration – lol.)
But this one was different. As I read it, I was encouraged. Not just because the words were nice, but because this was a clear affirmation that our staff and volunteers listened to the voice of the Lord, stepped out in courage and faith, doing what they believed God called them to do.
We could have comfortably and “safely” shut all ministry activities down. Not too many people would have complained, but shutting it down wouldn’t have brought transformation. We have a rare opportunity right now to minister to hearts. We were heeding this biblical admonition, “Be very careful, then, how you live– not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil” (Ephesians 5:15-16).
I want to pass the timely word along, because many of you who read this are volunteers and financial supporters. I want you to read this so that you can be encouraged also. It affirms that the extra effort that you have invested is worth it; it is hitting the mark. Be encouraged, and let us help each other keep on mission.
“All – Thanks so much for all the intentionality you have put into your programming this spring and the plans for the summer. While so many ministries are taking a leave of absence from ministry, I am thankful that Joy El has found new ways to serve. Your combined efforts to continue to grow God’s kingdom are evident. “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9. I am excited that my family can bear witness to the harvest!!
Thanks!”

This is why we were praying fervently for our governor to announce by Friday the 22nd that Franklin County will be Yellow on the 29th. Imagine how the Joy El team celebrated (via Zoom and socially distanced) when God responded to this prayer with favor!
Life is hopeless without Jesus and children need the hope of Jesus Christ! Christian summer camps and retreats are places where children consistently have life-changing encounters with Jesus Christ. And, the team at this Christian camp in Pennsylvania is thrilled to be moving forward with summer camp June 9th.
