I recently read another study that reminded me of the value of summer camp: According to a Kaiser Family Foundation study, kids spend an average of 7 hours, 38 minutes a day connected to some type of electronic device. UNBELIEVABLE.
Camp Joy El does provide an excellent way for children to get outside and connect with God and people (without electronics).
Just this past week, I saw children amazed at the full moon that was rising. This was just after the amazing sunset that we experienced. (Joy El does have an excellent view high on the hill.) And then the heavy rains that God sent gave us something to talk about, especially those who were outside when it started J.
Care.com shares there are five significant physical and mental health benefits of getting kids outside.
1. Improves Vision
2. Promotes Social Skills
3. Increases Attention Span
4. Reduces Stress
5. Provides Vitamin D
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, lots of kids are suffering from vitamin D deficiencies. This vitamin has several health benefits, including preventing kids from future bone problems, diabetes and even heart disease.
