Amy Diehl, our executive assistant shared a memory of how God provided both financial help and a volunteer!
The receptionist came to Amy’s office to ask if she would speak with a gentleman since she could not locate the Development Coordinator.
Amy said hello, introduced herself and proceeded with the normal pleasantries to ask how she could help him.
“I recently retired and sold my business, God told me I am supposed to give to Joy El.”
My next question was “How are you connected to Joy El?”
“I’m not, I just see the camp as I drive by,” he said.
“You have no connection to Joy El, yet you stopped to learn about us and to donate?” she asked.
“Yes,” he said as he slid the check across the desk. She doesn’t remember if she looked at the check while he was in her office or not, but she remembers telling him about the Tuesday Volunteers since he was retiring. This happened in December of 2018. He still comes on Tuesdays as one of the faithful volunteers.
She was so amazed at his obedience, at what God had done, and the fact that God had left her have a part in it.
A former staff member often shares one of their favorite memories of how God provided for a camper!
Before we dug our new well, we depended on an old well that was no longer adequate to provide water for the entire camp. We also depended upon the old cistern that still stands behind the dining hall. During very hot and dry weeks of summer, the cistern would often run dry and the well could not keep up with the demand for water.
At the beginning of a week during one of these summers, an emergency call for water to be brought in had to be made. Our usual provider was not available, and so a call was made to another water carrier to come and resolve the water emergency.
While the water delivery man was filling the cistern, they went out to thank him for coming so quickly to help. During the conversation, the delivery man shared that he had hoped his son could come to camp at Joy El, but there wasn’t any space left for him. They asked, “What week did you want him to come?”
He replied, “This week.”
They, replied, “Go get him! We’ll make room! The week has just started!”
Soon, the delivery man was back with his son ready for his week of impromptu camp!
At the end of the week, We learned that this young man had begun a relationship with Jesus! If we hadn’t run out of water, he wouldn’t have come to camp and made that life-changing decision!
