Bible Adventure Weekend better than Christmas?
That is exactly what the youngest of these three sisters told me on Saturday when asked if she was having fun. In fact, she said it was like all the holidays, her birthday and all the vacations to the beach all at one time.
For the past three years, she has sat back and watched her older sisters pack and leave for winter retreats and summer camp at Joy El, a Christian Retreat Center in PA, patiently waiting to be old enough to attend herself. Finally, her wait was over and she was eligible to attend with her sisters. Their mom registered them as soon as she received the email about Bible Adventure Weekend and prayed that her request for campership funds would be approved. For this family and so many others, and especially with only a few weeks until Christmas, budgets are stretched thin. But, she also knew what it would mean to these sisters to attend this weekend, so she was trusting God to provide when she registered them.
Two weeks before Bible Adventure Weekend, she received word that campership funds would be applied but she would need to put some money down to reserve the sisters’ spots at camp. Relieved, she agreed but didn’t know how or where this money would come from. A week before Bible Adventure weekend, she received an email to let her know that an anonymous donor had donated the necessary funds for her daughters to attend the weekend at camp.
I am so thankful that this mom and generous donors understand the importance of attending camp. Seeing these girls’ smiles makes it all worth it. Watching them make new friends, learn new songs, and hear God’s Word makes it all worth it. Knowing the discipleship that happens over the course of a weekend makes it all worth it. Making lifelong memories as sisters makes it all worth it. I know three young ladies (and their parents) who are thankful for this opportunity.
