Barnabas Mentor Coordinator
Priscilla Snell was among the 25 Barnabas mentors who participated in an online training seminar in January, and God immediately impressed upon her to apply what she learned.
Retired since 2011, Snell is quick to acknowledge that memorization does not come as easily for her as it once did. “As a child, I did a good bit of memorization, but I’d really gotten away from it,” she explains. “Of course, as I got older, it got harder. [My husband and I] help out with CIA and I try to memorize those verse with the kids. I attended your seminar and was really impressed with my need to do more memorization. So, I started with just two things, passages that spoke to me.”
In just two months after attending the seminar, Snell made significant progress. “I started with Psalm 50:14-15 and then I went to Romans 12:1-2. And from there to Romans 12:9-16 and Psalm 121:1-8. Right now, I’m working on the entire Romans Road [a method of sharing the Gospel that includes several Scripture passages from the book of Romans]. I’ve gotten down to the last, Romans 8:38-39.”
Snell’s memorization sets an example for the students she influences at Northern York County CIA and for her mentee in the Barnabas program. “My husband is starting to work on some of these verses too, which excites me,” Snell shares.
Snell is aware of the benefits of having these verses memorized. “The good thing is that, especially with the Romans Road, I have a ready resource,” Snell says. “Scripture tell us, be ready to tell anybody why you believe. I have these verses that can help not only with telling why I believe, but for supporting other people.”
Memorizing Scripture is a rich part of Snell’s family history that she is glad to return to.
“I was involved with [Bible Adventure] for about seven years when my kids were in school,” Snell recounts. “I was so proud of my son because he memorized 300 verses in his first year. He’d be the first one to tell you that it helped him all the way through school. He spent 22 years in the military and is now preparing to do a ministry to soldiers. It’s been a big help to him.”
We at Joy El celebrate Snell’s 27 years of participation in this ministry and her recent growth in Scripture memorization. Please pray for Snell, her Barnabas mentee, and Northern York County CIA as they seek the Lord through His Word.
