In the world of Christian camping, it’s easy to get caught up in the race for the most campers. But at the recent Allegheny Sectional gathering of the Christian Camp and Conference Association (CCCA), we were reminded of a greater goal: helping campers know their Creator and respond to the gospel. In our shared mission, we’ve witnessed moments of unity, collaboration, and heartfelt connections that go beyond competition and focus on advancing God’s Kingdom.
Here are a few highlights that showcase the strength of this unity:
- Building Connections, Changing Lives
Joy El’s Bookkeeper, Miriam, had a wonderful opportunity to connect with the new Guest Services leader from Rhodes Grove, Jason, offering advice and introducing him to Kaleb, the Group Events Coordinator. These simple, behind-the-scenes moments remind us how we lift each other up and build relationships that extend beyond our individual camps. That spirit of connection was echoed in Jason’s heartfelt story—his daughter attended our Day Camp program every week last summer and loved it. It’s a powerful reminder that the impact of Christian camps goes beyond just a single summer; we’re shaping lives, supporting one another, and creating a community that lasts.
- Rallying Together for a Brother in Need
When Chris, Joy El’s CEO had to leave early due to a car fire, the sectional community rallied together in prayer for him. This moment was a powerful reminder of the unity we share in Christ, regardless of our camp affiliations, as we supported a brother in need. As people were praying, Chris returned home to find everyone at home safe, and the fire contained.
- Personal Connections that Go Deeper
Miriam’s and my friendship with Johanna and Chris from Pine Valley reflects how relationships within the sectional can grow. Johanna even sent a card to Miriam after her knee surgery—a kind gesture that highlights the care we show one another. I also learned that Chris had been our summer videographer’s supervisor before she joined our team, reinforcing the strong, personal ties in our camping community.
- A Beautiful Moment of Prayer for a Retiring Leader
One of the most touching moments came when Andy, the retiring Associate Director of Ministry from New Life Bible Camp, was prayed over by two CEOs. A picture of this moment, which made its way online, captured not only the heartfelt prayer but also the beauty of leadership that serves one another. It was a clear demonstration that the work we do is not about titles or positions but about coming together in faith.
As we reflect on these moments, it’s clear that the CCCA Sectional wasn’t just about networking—it was a celebration of unity in our shared mission. Every camp has a unique story, but we’re all driven by the same goal: to lead campers to their Creator and help them respond to the gospel. Whether through prayer, personal connections, or collaborative efforts to equip future ministers, the CCCA Sectional reaffirmed that we are stronger together, united in purpose and faith.
Let’s continue to build on this unity as we move forward, serving the children, families, and communities God has entrusted to us. Together, we can make a lasting impact.
